We hope you are all enjoying the fall weather, here in Michigan it's hit us pretty fast.  Looks like it'll be a long winter!

It's the time of year when boots are muddy, coats are getting bigger and colds common.  At RTI we are preparing for a good couple of months to learn new skills, increase our client base and get back in touch with old clients.  If we haven't heard from you in a while, expect a call.  We'd be glad to give you a quote on any testing needs that you may have, perhaps some that you weren't aware we could perform!
EPA Regulations - PCBs in Caulk

Did you know??

According to the EPA, all schools built before 1978 may be required to test their caulk and replace any found to have contamination for PCBs.   If you know a school that was built before 1978, please check with your school or school board to see how they are approaching this issue.

Here at RTI we are fully equipped to perform these tests.  For more information please visit the EPA's website at http://www.epa.gov/pcbsincaulk/caulkremoval.htm

NOVEMBER TURKEY TENSILE PROMOTION!!

Many of you know us for being a full service chemical and metallurgical facility, with emphasis on problem November Turkey Tensile Promotionsolving.  What many of you may not know is that we are also a high volume production facility specifically in the analysis of mechanical properties (tensile, hardness, charpy impact, jominy...).

For the entire month of November we will be offering a special tensile testing promotion.  Our accredited tensile data quality rivals that of our national and international competitors, and our customer service, turn around time, and our immediate electronic reporting beats our regional competitors hands down.  We would like to take this opportunity to get the word out.  And to do that, we will be offering absolutely crazy pricing on tensile testing for the entire month of November.

Whether you are a new customer, or current customer, have flat stock, round stock, or tube stock, one sample or one hundred samples, please contact us and mention "Turkey Tensile Promotion" . The pricing we will provide will be too good not to make the inquiry!

Micro-Organic Identification by Micro-ATR

RTI Laboratories BannerFTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) analysis has for decades been a primary device in the chemist's toolbox for bulk organic identification.

The technique uses an Infrared source to excite the vibrational bonds within the molecule.  The detector measures the absorption at a particular energy as it scans through an infrared spectrum continuum.  Knowing what bonds are present, and based on the spectrum shape and relative intensities of the absorption, we can make educated theories on the molecular form or search against known libraries.  The micro-ATR is an accessory that redirects the infrared energy onto an ATR cell for measurement of a single bound reflected beam.  By focusing this beam to a point, and being able to image through the integrated objective, we can direct this energy to a spot approximately 100 microns in diameter.  The physics of the micro-ATR analysis are similar to using an FTIR microscope attachment to the bench, however with much lower maintenance and operating costs.  The sampling technique has become the norm for our FTIR analysis, even for bulk identifications.
