Industrial finishing and coating processes, including parts washing, plating, enameling, pre-treatment, and painting should all be routinely monitored to consistently produce defect-free parts.

However, due to the enormous variability inherent in these processes, it is extremely difficult to ensure this quality concept. Therefore, when anomalies occur in the manufacturing process, immediate action should be implemented to identify the source of the problem and take appropriate corrective measures.

Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometer (EDS) can isolate and identify the component layers and composition of finished, coated, or plated parts.
